Frequently asked questions about charging electric vehicles in public

These are the three most frequently asked questions we get about public charging for EVs. If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with a member of the Palmen Kia team.

What type of electric vehicle chargers are used in public stations?

Electric vehicles (EVs) can be charged using different types of chargers, each with varying charging speeds and compatibility. The most common types of EV chargers include Level 1, Level 2, and DC Fast Chargers. At public charging stations, you’ll typically encounter the last two types of chargers: Level 2 and DC Fast Chargers.

How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle in public?

Level 2 chargers offer a faster charging speed than your home Level 1 charger, requiring a 240-volt power source, and can provide 10-30 miles of range per hour, depending on the EV model. DC Fast Chargers, also known as Level 3 chargers, are the fastest option and are usually found at public charging stations. These chargers utilize high-powered DC electricity to deliver rapid charging, enabling a significant boost in range in as little as 30 minutes.

Where can I find a public electric vehicle charger?

Public charging stations, equipped with Level 2 and DC Fast Chargers, are strategically placed in various locations, such as parking lots, shopping centers, and along highways. EV owners can conveniently charge their vehicles while running errands, shopping, or during long trips. Public charging stations are often equipped with multiple charging ports, allowing several vehicles to charge simultaneously.
