Food Delivery and Meal Safety Tips for COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Due to social distancing, self-isolation, and quarantine during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, a lot of people are taking advantage of food delivery services more often than ever before. To capitalize on this trend, our sibling location of Palmen Fiat recently released a blog about Food Delivery Apps and Local Restaurants that Deliver in Kenosha, Wisconsin. To build off of this point, we wanted to discuss meal safety tips when getting food delivered to ensure that you’re keeping safe while having a warm, tasty, and filling breakfast, lunch, dinner, or midnight snack!

Weird Driving Laws in the State of Wisconsin

Food Delivery Companies – Safety Protocols

Many food delivery companies (DoorDash, GrubHub, Uber Eats, etc.) are also implementing safety protocols to comply with social distancing guidelines and to keep both their employees and customers safe. Those include the regular cleaning of delivery vehicles, contactless delivery, and employing drivers that self-isolate.

However, while they’re taking precautions, food delivery companies still can’t guarantee a 100% hygienic delivery. Therefore, some measures of safety are up to you!

No-Contact Delivery

As mentioned above, some companies are offering ‘No-Contact Delivery’. That means having as little as contact with your delivery driver as possible. Don’t worry about being rude, I’m sure they will understand during this kind of national and economic situation. So, how do you go contactless?

  • Place your order online or by phone
  • Tip your delivery driver online or by app
  • Request that your delivery driver leave your food at your doorstep or lobby, rather than a hand-off

Dispose of Outside Containers

Be safe and assume that all outside containers brought into your home are contaminated. In that case:

  • Dispose of delivery containers
  • Transfer your food to a clean container or plate
  • Reheat food to kill possible bacteria
  • Avoid ordering cold foods
  • Use your own utensils
  • Wash your hands between steps
