Weird Driving Laws in the State of Wisconsin

Some strange laws become irrelevant over time, but still (technically) stick around on the books. Some are enforced while others are forgotten. Some laws you just don’t expect or thought were common courtesy rather than the legal rule. What kinds of laws meet these standards in Wisconsin? Here are some of the weirdest driving laws in the state of Wisconsin!

Is It Illegal to Drive with a Cast on Your Foot?

No Flutes and Drums in the Streets

The playing of flutes or drums on the streets of Milwaukee is prohibited as it might cause distraction.

It’s unclear if any other musical instruments are subject to this ruling.

Livestock have the Right of Way

Wisconsin is the dairy state of the USA and, therefore, outside of the big cities, you’re likely to see a lot of farmland between towns.

That’s why livestock, whether that be cows, sheep, horses, pigs, or any other animals, have the right of way on public roads.

No Sitting on Cars (Without Permission)

In Hudson, Wisconsin, whether it’s a random vehicle in a parking lot or a close friend’s car, it’s illegal to sit on a car you are not the owner of unless you have the expressed consent of the owner.

Both Hands on the Bike

In Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, it’s illegal to ride a bike without having both hands on the handles.

It might be impressive that you can ride and steer a bike with no hands, but you’ll have to show off that skill somewhere other than Sun Prairie.

No Throwing Rocks at Trains

Cargo trains aren’t known for their looks, and they’re built pretty tough to take a beating, but it’s illegal anywhere in Wisconsin to throw rocks at a still or moving train/locomotive.

Tie a Horse to Your Car to Avoid a Ticket

In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, it’s illegal to have your vehicle parked on a street for over 2 hours unless it’s tied to a horse.

So….bring along a horse if you’re planning to stay awhile.

The horse part of this law probably is no longer enforced, but that means it might be even easier to get a ticket if you’re not careful!
