Is your car winter ready?

Winter Car Care

Well, the cold and darkness are upon us, so you know what’s just around the corner. Snow. Are you ready for the incoming blankets of fluffy white precipitation? More importantly, is your car? Here are some questions to ask yourself as winter rapidly approaches.

How are my tires? This is one you definitely shouldn’t sleep on. Good all-season or snow tires can make a huge difference in a number of snowy, icy road situations, and believe us: It’s worth the investment to make sure you fall on the safer side.

Where are my fluid levels? You will definitely want to make sure your car is full of antifreeze (at a 50/50 water and antifreeze mixture), windshield washer fluid (ever been sprayed with muddy slush by a big truck?), and it’s probably a good time to schedule an oil change while you’re at it!

Are my brakes and battery is good working order? These are especially susceptible to winter difficulties, so having them checked out ahead of the super-cold season is recommended.

How’re my wipers wiping? More than any other season, winter is when you need your windshield wipers to be at their very best, as visibility is of course a huge factor in accident prevention.  In fact, you can buy winter wipers that are built to take the additional wear and tear that snowy conditions have on your blades.

Am I prepared in case of an emergency? It’s a great idea to have a winter emergency kit in your car – starting now. Make sure you’ve got a charger or extra battery pack for your mobile phone, blankets, salt or kitty litter for getting un-stuck, flares, snacks, and jumper cables, to start with. These things will all come in very  handy if you find yourself stranded in wintry conditions.

These are just some of the things you’ll want to consider as you prepare for life on the roads this winter. Let us know if you’d like us to give your vehicle a winter once-over here at our service department. We wish you a safe, happy season!
